I have a 500 4x4 scrammy with a dg front bumper.. I'm wanting to get a winch for the front but I havn't had any luck finding any winches/ mounting brackets for my situation....you guys know any ideas or know where I can get a set up for my quad. I was wanting a warn winch and kit but any info would be greatly appreciated..........Thanks

i have a similar problem but everything i have found only mounts to the stock bumper. uless your crafty enough to make it werk somehow.
i think that the front is heavy enough,so i decided i might like to make a custon mounting bracket and mount it on the rear of the frame, on the underside of the rear grab bar.
just an idea.

Ya, I heard someone that mounted there's in the rear... they put it underneath the seat on the frame and it was above the rear shock...I don't remember if he built a custom bracket or not though..I'm probably going to have to end up hooking it in the rear though...if you have some mounting ideas..pass them this way!

I have a Cycle Country winch mount on my 2001 Scrambler's stock frot bumper. It came with the fairlead & "U" bolts to attach it & also attaches to the top 2 bolt holes on the stock plastic skid plate. I'm sure you could drill holes in different locations & maybe even cut the front piece of the mount that wraps down around the bumper to the skid plate holes, which would basically give you a flat plate to attach to your bumper. Take a look at my pics & if needed I'll take some closer shots to give you more detail.

If the bumper looks like the one on Scramblerxrateds X, cutting the front off would most likley work. I'm considering a aftermarket bumper something like that for my machine too. I was going to take it off when not plowing snow , but found a vinyl winch cover & just cover it.

hey don49, those are nice pics.
though you are probably right, i dont think i want to cut up my bumper!lol! those damn things are expensive!
do you find yourself using the winch other than for plowing? does it suck down the battery with the lights on? i guess im just wondering of the scrambler charging system can handle alot of winching.

Quadracer18 ,
Thanks for the kind words about the pics. I would never cut the bumper but the mount could be cut pretty easy.
I didn't mean cut your bumper, rather cut the winch mount to fit your bumper. I've used the winch a few times pulled some big schrubs out around the house, winched my father's 18 hp garden tractor out of the mud with the mower deck burried, but I did have to strap the Scrambler to a tree. I haven't had to even run it at over idle when winching & haven't noticed any massive battery drain. But I have never used the winch for an extended period of time other that plowing & it will dim the headlights when used, but I'm also running Hot Grips when plowing & haven't had a problem. I've been looking at different bumpers for mine, what brand is your bumper ?

oh ok i see what you mean.
my only other concern of mounting the winch set up to an aluminum bumper is that im not sure that it would be as strong as the stock steel bumper. might tweak under heavy load. i dunno.
my bumper is the aluminum bumper offered by polaris. they come in aluminum color and yellow or red(i think) powdercoat. they are really nice, but they are expensive. $199 from the dealership. i have seen them on ebay for $159 tho. i have already had to replace mine once.
there are other manufacturers out ther im sure.

Does Polaris still make the bumper for mounting a winch? The reason why I am asking is because I just scored brand new one minus the winch for $50, that a Polaris dealer had sitting on a shelf. I got the bumper the mounting plate and all the hardware to mount it. It is brand new and never installed. Was $50 a decent deal? I'll post a couple of pics into my profile soon.

That's the same bumper I've been thinking about. As far as the bumper not being able to stand the winching , I've only got a 2000 lb winch & the machine is just under 600 lbs, so even if you were winching a bigger utility quad , you'd only be talking half the load of the winch & unless you strap your machine to a tree it would slide your machine forward with the brakes locked long before the winch stalled. The garden tractor I mentioned winching out before weighed about 800 or 900 lbs & before I strapped my machine to the tree it was pulling my machine forward rather than pulling the tractor. After it was hooked to the tree it was a breeze. One of these days I'm going to buy one of those bumpers & then I'll know for sure, but I don't expect to load it so heavy that it would hurt anything. Another idea might be, since the mount I've got mounts to the tiop of the bumper you could connect some 14" X 2" flat steel to the steel part of your machines frome running from under the winch mount back to the frame & since it's under the mount & plastic you probably paint it to match your frame & never see it. Then the winch would be pulling on the machine frame not just the bumper. Warn also makes a mount that goes on the rear near the grab bar, in fact there is one on ebay now. Maybe that would work for you unless you plow snow.
