400 charging probelm
#1
alright i installed the 3 headlight conversion kit on my '04 400 sportsman from the directions i got here, i cant remember who posted it. but a week ago i was out pulling my brother on a sled in the snow and the battery light started flashing. i had all the headlights on, the fan was running, and awd engaged (i dont know if that takes electricity to stay engaged). i had the lights on for bout half hour, and it the quad was running for bout 2 hours. but i turned the lights off and it went away. my question is there a limit to how long you can run the lights or is somthing else bad.
also i went to my dealer to get a k&n air filter for it but they said they didnt carry them cause it voids warranty, and that they only have them for the predator. i was sure they said when i bought it that they said i could buy one for it from them. will the one for the predator fit otherwise i'll have to order it from somewhere. thanks for any help

The charging system or the 400 and 500HO, can not charge the battery at idle with the fan and low beams on (at lease thats what my dealer told me) ... my guess is you were just idleing to much. I've run my three light conversion on all day, but i was running at 4200 to 4500 rpm for the ride and turned them off when stopped.
