Its gonna be alot like the older 450 motors, and you can spend alot of money, to just get 2 or maybe 3 hp.
check out the graph here, Those motors were designed for torque and low end power, and unless you open up the heads and the cam for better breathing, its not gonna change much.
Its all in how much you want to spend...for about 600 bucks you can get 2 horsepower.

They go plenty fast for the stock suspension. Dont mess with it.

Hondabuster, I generally agree with your comment but another way to look at those three horsepower is that it is approximately a 25% increase over stock. It's all relative.

For my applications, torque and low end power is what I want, along with durability and reliability. Accordingly, I go Honda and plan to stay stock. Oh yea, almost forgot, and I same money too!

I hear ya, I dont really want to put up with a loud exhaust , I do alot of riding in public places. Usually that 3 hp shows up at the upper ends of the rpms, and usually the lower rpms loose power. A 25% increase from pipe and jetting seems like a stretch, could be some marketing hype involved.
Everyone has to decide for themselves if 600 bucks is worth it...id rather spend the 600 and upgrade to a rubicon. Not only do you get the same durable 4wd , but a better tranny and more power.
TONEALe, even with the mods, the top speed wont change, the rev limiter is still gonna stop the motor at the same revs, so top speed will be the same. Welcome to the forums and enjoy your honda.

The stock exhaust is so restricted. I installed the jet kit, filter kit and hmf pipe on mine and also the silencer core because I dont care for a lot of noise. I could tell a small difference mostly in the bottom end of the power after doing these modifications. Another friend told me to remove the silencer and it would really make a difference and it really did! All the way through the power band there is a definate increase in power. Top speed picked up around 5mph and it will fish tail on dirt in 4th gear and pulls good and strong in fifth. The noise was terrible though so I cut off most of the pipe in the slip in silencer and left the screen wire the way it came. I am very satisfied with it and I think it was the best 350 bucks I have ever spent..I dont know what the number increases would be on a dyno, but you sure can feel the power increase in the seat of the pants! Thats where it counts.
