00 grizz losing power
#1
i have a 00 grizzly with a little over 600 miles on it, and it was quite a bit more powerful when new. its completely stock and i have lost about 6 mph on top end and experience a noticeable power loss throughout. it is completely stock, i just had the valves adjusted which didn't help, just changed the air filter, just adjusted the slack in the throttle cable which didn't help. any other owners out there experience this with theirs? two other things that i notice are, i can squat down in front of it and reach up and rev it way up and notice a sort of fluttering sound that appears to be coming from around the head i think. could this be a cracked or leaky head pipe? it also smells very strongly of gas all the time like its running way rich or something. could this be a problem? if so does anyone have a good trick to dial it in? any and all help is appreciated.

Check where your exhaust comes out of the engine and see if it's leaking exhaust fumes(put your hand near it and feel for blowing fumes)...if it is that means theirs low power like you said. Just tighten the bolts up.
Hope this helps.

As for the fluttering noise you were describing, ATV_MAN had some good advice. I've found that when trying to find an exhaust leak, feel around like atvman said, but do it in the dark with a flashlight. I've been able to find exhaust leaks better that why. Alot of time you might not feel it, but you'll be able to see it. Usually a small exhaust leak will sound kinda like valve tappets that need adjustment. As for the gas smell. You said that you have already checked the air filter and that was OK. Is your choke out of wack somehow? If its not opening all the way, it would cause a power loss and you would smell gas. It might even cause the noise you were describing. You know how an engine sounds when you turn on the choke after it is warmed up? Your float might be stuck also. That happened to me once with my Kodiak. Check your spark plug boot and wire. If your arcing somewhere you probably not getting a complete burn. I don't know if this would cause your problem, but have you checked your spark arrester. If that were plugged you would get a power loss. It really sounds to me like your engine can't breath somehow. Have you ever put your hand over the air intake when it was running? It looses power and makes a kind of sucking sound. Beyond that I don't really know. Hope some of this helped. But you've probably checked all that by now.

i also noticed yesterday ( i still haven't pinpointed the problem yet) that i no longer have a reverse rev limiter. i can just peg it and try to hold on for dear life with out wrecking. maybe some electrical problem then? i might be preparing for another trip to the dealer.
