Nephew drove my ride with E-brake on
#1
I actually blame my brother for this one. We were deer hunting and he parked mine on the side of a hill and the dumbutt had it parked facing down the hill, I watched him do it from 250 yards away and the way he came in was sideways, meaning all he had to do was shut it off and it would not have rolled anywhere. He purposely turned the wheeler down the hill and put the e-brake on. I had three of my bro's with me and my little nephew with. Anyway we decided to move to another part of the land and some of us were going to walk and my nephew was closest to my wheeler. My brother who parked the thing told my nephew to drive it back to the trucks and did not bother to tell him the e-brake was on. Soooo he drove it about 300 yards with it on. I would not expect him to remember to check for the e-brake cause he has only driven a wheeler a few times. But I would expect my bro who owns a polaris 700 to know enough to tell the young lad. I was too far away to see if the brake was on. Anyone had this happen to you? Had any prob's with your brake? Mine seems to work fine. I was just initially pissed off cause my bro has a track record of wrecking other peoples' toys. The thing is, he parked it in a field on a hill and the thing still more than likely would not have rolled anywhere cause of the mud and ruts from the field being plowed.

i hear ya. Iwas hunting and had my 300ex, i let my brother take it to get to his spot and he left the E-brake off and put it in neutral....lets just say i got some new plastics out of the deal.

Nutsy I would just check the belt, and clutches ,300 yards is a good way to go with e brake on,and driven clutch trying to stop drive clutch with constant forward pressure on it. Its not like just pulling something heavy. You will probably find some extra rubber on your clutches, you will know if your top speed changes , for the worst. If so clean up clutches and throw on a new belt.I did have something similar happen to me , last year my pal and I went ice fishing I had my GRIZ and he had my P650, when we got to the parking spot I started both quads and I strarted getting the equipment out of the truck. I looked over and he was revving the P650 up and down he did not know it was in gear with the e brake on , then I smelled the rubber , I went over and put it in neutral, I new that it was in gear, but never told him to do anything with the wheeler , I checked the belt a few days later and it definetly shortened the blet life. I normally dont let anyone ride my quad and I usually dont ride anyone elses in most cases, they just cost too much to let someone break.

nutsy, I drove with my rear brake engaged on my 02 p650 for probably 1 or 2 miles. I had no ill effects at all. the brake still worked fine after that, I think I had to tighten a little though.

Thanks for the replies, It is hard sometimes, I do not want to be a hard *** when it comes to people riding my stuff, especially family but I would like to at least have them learn a few things before gettin on and takin off. I actually told my little nephew how to run the thing and where the brakes are before we went hunting. I told him to not touch the e- brake, he would not need it, and he didn't. I thought it would be too much for him to take in all at once. A lot of people are unfamiliar with the e-brake on the left, the front brake on the right and the rear brake on the floor board, then you ad in the front diff lock and the shifter and what not and confusion easily sets in for novice riders. It is funny, I have had 2 incidents with my 4 wheeler where I have just shook my head in disgust. This one and another where my fiance's brother was driving my wheeler through a crick and he thought the left e-brake was the diff lock, I told him before hand what everything was for and he still did it albeit only for a few seconds cause I was watching and cussed him out. My bro and fiance's brother ride Polaris', I tell them my Kawi is too technically advanced for them to understand! LOL

I let a friend ride my Sportsman 500. He drove in Low with the park brake on for who knows how long. Finally, he says he has no brakes. Turns out, he got them so hot he must have boiled the fluid. The lever could be squeezed all the way with no effect. After cooling down, they worked fine. Then, later, he rolled the quad backwards on a simple hillclimb by going nuts with the throttle.
Isn't it funny how it's always someone else that trashes your quad. I just don't let other people ride my stuff anymore.

First time i let someone ride my rubicon, My sister in law thought my winch up and down button was the start button, I wont even go into detail how that all turned out! Man it still pi$$es me off.
Second time was my brother drove my rubicon in low and esp stays in first gear, only to come back wanting to know why it would not go very fast!!!!!
and the third time I let someone ride my quad (step mother) she was gone for 2 hours, I Searched and searched for her all over the riding areas then my dad got in on the search and started cussing me for letting her ride it! and the whole time she was at lady freinds house having tea! and that is no joke.
Oh and then there was the other sister in law that came back from a ride screaming how much fun the jumps were.
Its a wonder I even have a quad left. Now when people come over I just say dont even ask to ride it the second they walk into the garage.

People, especially family, just don't give a crap about your stuff. They do something stupid, and then they laugh, thinking it's funny. Meanwhile, your $7,000 rig has a broken thingymajigure that's going to cost you bigtime to replace. Literally, the last 5 quad accidents that I've witnessed involved a non-owner riding someone else's quad. The worst was one guy who borrowed a quad and ran into the back of another quad. Both quads were owned by the lender, and both were trashed.
I got over being selfish a long time ago. You want to ride? Buy your own quad.

The beauty of fluid brakes is probably didn't hurt the brake pads, but Its likely the diffy fluid overheated. I would change it. Its only a 10min job. It also could have thrown some out the overflow tube if it did overheat, so I would at least check it and see if its still full or black. I would just change it anyway.
