Lectron tuning advice

Well i got my lectron 46 on and going well, i Have just been richening the needle (rod) until i can wick the throttle full open as fast as i can without bogging or cutting out, .
Question do i stop richening there or do i want to go a quarter turn richer just to be on the safe side.
I want to be sure i got the bottom set up right before i start in on the top end power jet.
Dont want to be doing it twice. I got some new plugs for the plug chops but would prefer not to end up with a bucket load of them.
Once im finished i would like to compare set up of rod # length and power jet size to some one with the same mods i have just to see how close or differnt we end up
thanks

Blue, did you get the carb. from Mr. Hp? He would be the one to talk too. Usually when he sends them out there pretty close to where you need them.
Mine came and only needed one turn to richen it up some (probably dead on but I didnt like the look of the plugs).

Yes it's a mr HP carb, i bought it used.
didnt want to be hasseling eric all the time when there is a lot of collective experiance on here
It was pretty close to start with top end was spot on but the bottom end needed a bit of tweaking

Blue, if you have the bog taken away your getting close. Find a good long pull and run it, richen the needle half a turn then run again, I think you'll be surprised on how much these machines like fuel. I ended up two full turns richer on mine then Eric had set when I got it. This is at about 4300'. The plugs show I'm a little rich, but she likes it like that.

Ok
here is where im at
Air fuel screw 1/2 turn out
metering rod (mr hp 1-6) length 2.027" when measured from the brass
power jet #120 Why they have to make the numbers so small.
seems to run pretty good at this with full throttle plug chops giving a light tan colord plug
I think it is a litle rich at idle as it will start without choke but it isnt that cold today, and it doesnt seem to be causing any running problems.
Any tips for getting new plugs to take on color as i never seem to be able to get them to pick any thing up untill they have done a few hours ?

The powerjet is a great midrange adder.
You must remove screw and washer from top of powerjet so as to become inactive.
Set idle rpm with idle speed screw.
When totally warm test for starting and being able to take throttle. When you do a high rpm down shift listen for backfiring.
If back firing richen needle. The leaner you can run without backfiring, the better.
Replace powerjet screw and washer.
Do a power run.
Increase size of powerjet till topend power flatttens or motor flutters - too rich.
Back off .020 Example: flutters with .160 jet - replace with .140
The larger the powerjet the sooner it also turns on.
DS's love fuel in midrange, if you set the needle for a rich bottom, it will be richer thru out, thus powerjet will need to be smaller.
Small powerjet = less midrange
