hey I know I may seem dumb but I looked around for the starter yesterday on my scrambler 400 and could not find the starter or anyting that looks like the starter block off plate I plan to order. any one who has remved it can you tell me wear it is located at.

I ordered a polaris yellow spring yesterday from HPD will this cause any problems for my basically stock engine? its listed as a performance spring by HPD.

Also I plan to replace my piston so I can get a pipe and better clutch kit latter on. should I go with a standard or 0.20 overboar? any pro's or cons of each?

also it would be about june 2005 before I would be able to pick up the pipe etc. when I have the engine apart would it be worth anything to have it ported even though I will be running the stock pipe?

 

If you take the bottom plate off from underneath the atv you will see it.

 

I wouldnt plan on porting it until you have the pipe and clutching handy. The stock pipe doesnt like porting too much. Not saying you wouldnt notice it, but the big gains are accomplished with a pipe and clutch change.

pennyless, I was thinking I had to remove everything on top since i didn;t see it on top I assumed the starter was on on the bottom, but didn't think of remving the skid plate.

I figured that was the case bubba, it would probable save me money but oh well.

any feedback on the yellow clutch spring? specifically shift out as stock is 140 and this one is 175(I beleive)

Check out this thread on starter install.

The spring should be fine with a stock machine, this was the first thing i did to mine before getting the pipe and clutch kit.
You may need to use the reverse override button all the time when in reverse.

 

thanks jimmy I can't wait to try this spring, I use an epi now so I'm used to using the override to back up it can cause soem real traction issues with roots and stuff.
