What's the option when the front struts are leaking oil and need to be replaced? Does anyone rebuild them or are they a throw away and replace? I noticed something is probably going to have to be done soon. FWIW, a 94 400L is the quad in question, kind of an oddball model.

Thanks, I mean to ask as well is this a do it yourself or should it be left to an expert? I'm mechanical enough to do it. Do I need any special tools?

It's my dad's quad but I think he's gonna have to do something. I was breaking his engine in and they (struts) are terrible and leaking oil badly. Is this something I can buy ebay or would the money be spent better somewhere else? He's not going to want to spend any money being I just rebuilt his engine for him and he wasn't really wanting to sink that much into it to begin with.

I think you could pretty easily do it yourself. I believe you just have to unbolt it at the top up under the fender, and then I think there is like 2 bolts at the bottom on the steering knuckle that may only need to be loosened for the strut to slide out.

Not sure about e-bay, if you type "Polaris struts" someone is selling a bunch of Kimpex for ~125 a set, but you would have to be careful of the size. I would check at a dealer for the factory parts, I read in Dirt Wheels once that they were only like $50 each.

Also if you do it yourself you might want to tie up the spring before loosening the top, there may be some energy stored in them.

The spring was my concern if I am understanding them right.

I didn't realize they were that cheap. I checked at Ronnies.com and they listed for $100 apiece. I was surprised to see them that low. I checked out Works but they didn't list anything for that model so it's probably an oddball size.

I guess I'll ask my local mechanic next time I see him. Still can't get that #$#!@ carb right. Cannot get it to idle. Everything else is fine but it will not idle.

for idle make sure your ETC on the throttle is adjusted right. I think that ATV would have one. If its not adjusted right, the atv will idle with you pushing the throttle a little, but when you let off it will die. My Pred did that and it was driving me nuts till i realized what it was.

What and where is the ETC? I think I know but would rather be sure.

These are very cost effective. And probably a little better than the factory units.
