Insurance? Add To Homeowners?

we didnt have our polaris insured with anything. when it was stolen home owners offered us like 1700-2k for it minus a 500$ deductable.
i'd get it on a seperate policy though..my friends 05 brute force is like 130$ a year and its FULL coverage. like fixes the bike if he wrecks it, hospital bills for the rider, and a passanger if there is one, coverage against fire and theft...makes me think of it getting it sometime.

I wouldn't think homeowners would cover a bike unless it was stolen out of your garage.
I have Allstate, and it is a seperate "Recreational Vehicle" policy. $30 per year for liability, and $100 for comprehensive.

Homeowners would cover it while on the property. (depending on the insurance company) If people want to ride on public lands then it would need extra coverage. This could be put on a current insurance policy like if you added a car. You could also get a policy through a company just for the atv. If you have your homeowners, cars and quads with one company, they should give you a discount.
Just an idea- Insurance companies should put insurance on the person and not the vehicles. You can only drive one thing at a time. If someone has a license then they should carry insurance only on themself and not every vehicle owned. The companies like to zap everyone with high bills for vehicles seldom driven. Then they change the rules around for teenage drivers. Even though the teenager may not even own a vehicle. The insurance company raises a parents insurance hundreds just because they think the teenager is more likely to get in a accident. Insure people not vehicles. The companies would probably make out better because every license carrier would have to have insurance. But it could reduce the over all cost for people with a couple vehicles.

I just signed up with progressive for my new Brute Force. It was $200 cheaper than state farm and I have 2 cars and a house with them. The coverage I got is 100,000/300,000 like you would have on a car. I figured too much is not a bad thing if a bad thing happens. I also have the $250 deductable instead of $500.
You can get a quote right on the progressive website if you like.

Definetly don't put it on the homeowners. You'll have to have it parked in the housed and chained to the couch before they'll consider covering it. Progressive, Markel (who I use) are some good companies. Get the full coverage, comp/collision/medical/theft. I had a few run ins with the trees but never claimed it on insurance. Cheaper just to fix. I've got it mostly for theft, and if I do total it, chances are I'm going to have some injuries that will make that medical come in handy.

Not sure anyone here is in the insurance business, so I am not sure how much stock I'd put into their opinions. I do know that considering that insurance companies have more lawyers on staff than the US government, I'd be going to teh source to find out the REAL skinny. In th emost recent issue of Honda Ride Red magazine, there is an article on the subject. Pretty much they say to not risk losing the home... get a seperate policy.
