Had to drive 3 hours but I got a Viper today.

Since I'm new to the Bomb family, what kind of stuff do I need to do right away to make it better i.e. remove the airbox lid/rejet etc. Also, what paddles to you guys recommend (#s of paddles/brand)? I don't really like Skat's as I've had them come apart too easy, I like the ITP sand stars on our Z400 but what do you guys think about them on a DS.

Anything you guys can tell me about "cheap" starter mods would be much appreciated at this point. I'm sure I'll end up getting a pipe and stuff but for now I'll tinker with what's there.

Thanks in advance,

Rich

CONGRATS but first ........ go ride that beast!!!! have some fun on the cadillac of quads. beat up on some guys in some drags. then decide what to get. some guys sink money into the suspension first and others try to build a rocket right away. good luck.

Congatulations, there is no going back now, after you get a taste of the sweet ride of the DS, the other quads will feel like a toy.

Thanks guys, I'm pretty excited to have a beast in the stable.

LVracer, I got it down in Havasu. Nobody in Central/So. Utah, Vegas, or much of Arizona had a Viper. I got the last one in Havasu as well.

Can I pull the lid with the stock pipe? Even though I haven't ridden it yet I want to get some of the de-tune out of it and make it as crisp as possible. Also, what's the scoop with that paper air filter a la Polaris? I was kinda suprised to see that. I'm an anti-K&N kind of guy, what else is out there for us?

Thanks guys!

cheap mods.
1) 15t front sprocket rocky mt.atv $15
2). MR. HP end cap around $100 or mod quad around $50 , there is one selling on ebay to or make your self (FREE)!.
3) A CDI Box Procom around $100, (But ive heard up and down results on this box)
4) IMHO w/ the stock carb leave the lid on unless your riding in high elevation. This topic is hot so if you want further info do a search on airbox.

this is a start and will wake the beast

"O" The paper filter actully flows very very well (proven on a few dynos) but its not washable I would use it till it gets dirty then get a
K-n or uni what ever your prefrence.

The bike has good usable power right out of the box, I don't know that you will find any state of de-tune to reverse. The biggest change for your dollars is the endcap. Mod Quad The next mod would be a K&N with an outerware. Tires for duning, Sandstar 22x11x10 rear and 22x8x11 fronts. I have not changed the ignition box because I find that by the time I hit the rev-limter it is already on the down side of the power curve, I just stay below it. I have not done the gearing change, I like the MPH in high gear on the flats. Your time would also be well spent adjusting the shock preload(sag) and the compression and rebound in the rear shock. It makes a great suspension better suited to you. I spent quite a bit of time on the control positioning, bars levers, shifter and the like. With this setup I can dune in third gear all day and sit on the seat doing it.....

Yes he did. Talked to him again today as I'm missing a right front hub dust cover or whatever bombardier calls it. He's supposed to mail one up to me.
