Wondering if you could put a 2001 gas tank on a 99 model and fit. Also still fit with original side panels. That might be something worth looking into, seeing as the small opening and rattling gas guage really suck. Not worried much about having an extra half gallon of fuel. I know better than to run it out by now.

Andy, just to let you know, I have a 2000 model auto with the new style tank and the gauge rattles on it. I don't think they changed the gauge. I do wish it didn't rattle so much.

Andy, I have some good news and bad news for you. You can switch the tank but you also have to switch the left side panel and the reverse lever and mount. The reserve is in a different place on the new tank, requiring you to change both. I am currently waiting for my tank and reverse handle/mount and lt side panel. The new tank is easier to fill, the gauge doesn't rattle near as bad, you don't have to fool with the vent hose, and it is a little bigger. Takes about an hour to switch.
