electric shift rancher problem
#1
I own a 2000 rancher and after I went to a river about 3 hours of trail sevral water passes, I notice that my shift bottons donīt work.they stay in the last gear so when I need to go in 1st. or 2nd. gear for the river cross. I have to put off the key and turned on again for in that way the shifts work and go to "N" and turn on my bike,
but in 3 or 5 minutes they stock again, and i have to do all the procedure again and again in my 6 hours trail..
I intented to disconect the battery for get the computer in reset but it dosent work .My dealer have the atv about 3 weeks and they dont know nothing.
If any knows which is the problem maybe water or hot wheater.. I apreciate your cooperation. tanks.

Your problem is with one of the sensors. My did exactly the samething. Does your speed/odometer work. My didn't. I know exeactly what you are going through. Pain in the butt to have to turn the atv off and on to be able to shift. I drove that way for about 250 miles in the three weeks while the part was on order. I bought mine first of Nov. There were no parts in the country. I screamed long and loud until the district service rep removed the part from a new Rancher to fix mine.
I know have 1400+ miles on mine now with no other problems that weren't self induced. (Cut wiring harnes with a frayed winch cable)
Check your sensors and apply de-electric grease to help with water problems.
Good Luck.

like the above posts stated, it's just a loose or malfunctioning sensor. Search the forum of "ES shifting problems" and you will find, in detail, where all the sensors are and how to fix the probelm. I beleive there are three on the rancher but can't remeber.
I highly recommend that everyone with a qaud buys an appropriate shop manual for it. A lot of dealer mechanics arn't woth diddly squat. I think they should come stadard with a qaud......

there isn't a seperate forum for ES shifting problems. You need to search the honda forum with the search function. I tried and the only thread i could relocate was this one.
http://forums.atvconnection.com/thre...95&StartRow=21
It describes one of the sensors (snowshark talks about the angle sensor). There was a thread a while back that described where all the sensors were, but i can't find it.....sorry.
hope this helps a little

It is so refreshing seeing folks post responses knowing that they are simply trying to be constructive and not at all into bashing. Isn't that right, Quadfather?
