Tire Size - Can you stand another question?
#1
I'd like to replace the stock Dunlops on my 500i 4x4 auto and am wondering a couple of things:
1. If I put the same size rims and tires on the front as are on the rear, how big a spacer would I need if I do this? Is there an upside to doing this? Downside?
2. What is the largest tire I can put on the existing front rim without hitting the suspension?
3. Has anyone balanced their tires? Was it worth it in terms of feel and smoothness? Would you do it again? Cost? Was it difficult to find someone to balance a tire that small?
About 70% of my riding is on gravel roads at speeds of around 30-35 MPH. The remainder is crawling on unimproved trails.
Thanks. I know there is someone on this forum that knows the answer.

1. I think you'd need at least a 2 inch spacer, I swapped the fronts to the rear and the rears up front just for the heck of it once, I could barley turn, the spacers will also make you really wide.
2. A 10 wide will work on the stock front rim, I wouldn't recomed going any wider just for steering ease.
3. I didn't balance mine and I don't know anyone who has, don't personaly know anyone who's had a problem either.
For the terrain and your ridding I'd look into some 26 bearclaws, they wear really well on hard pack and have good all arround traction. Or you could look into the radial bighorns.
