Steering Problems With 250 4x4?
#1
Good evening guys.
I'm posting this message for a friend of mine back home (I'm at school) who's having some problems with a late model Arctic Cat 250 4x4.
I haven't seen it myself, so I'm sorry for the crude description and probable misuse of names, but I'll try...
Supposedly, the tie rod end mounts into a short, flat piece of steel that then runs to a mounting surface.
Anyways, that flat piece of steel has sheared-off twice at its mounting surface and they can't figure out what is causing this problem...they just use it for hunting and occasional recreational riding, but nothing extreme.
Thank you.

I see no flat piece of steel outboard that could break. Go here;

and here:

and tell me which page and the number of the part that is breaking. Otherwise can't help what I don't see.

The "Ball Joint, Tie Rod - Right" mounts into a flat piece of steel that's just a few inches long. This flat piece of steel then connects to the spindle.
That piece of steel has sheared off where it connects to the spindle.

I do not see a piece of steel in that location and on my 2001 250 the tie rod end bolts into the cast arm on the steering knuckle (so does my 2005 400 and I can't ever remember seeing one on anything that didn't and that covers a lot of years). I am getting the feeling someone modded the steering and now it breaks (non-stock tie rods, like to short and are using spaces to make up for it). I checked from 2000 thru 2005 and do not see this piece you are discribing. Give me a drawing number or a part number from the parts breakdown otherwise order new tie rods and ends and replace them, that's the safest thing to do.
