About the only real thing an owner can do is spray the cable with an anti-rust spray. WD-40 will work, but needs to be sprayed every week. Can't even remember the stuff I'm using name, but it is just for corrosion protection. Read this for a good example of what will work best;

It's supposed to be a sealed unit, but water does get into it. It will dry up on it's own, but if it's dirty water, sand does build up inside over time. Rarely, but sometimes they fry but most of the time it will work until the brushes no longer make contact. I usually take mine apart once a year to clean the brushes and winding and re-grease the bearings. You can buy relacement brush and bearing kit for the superwinch, not sure about the warn. Make sure you seal it again when you put it back togerther.

Good Luck

The only ATV winch Warn makes that is sealed is the 3000#er unless the new larger one is,don't know that one.You should take it all apart at least once a year and muck it out,I had to take one apart that I had on a kodiak to fix it and holy crap,you would not believe the crud that was in there.It is a wonder that they will work at all.There are no seals at all,kinda strange when you consider what they are subjected to.

When and if you disassemble your winch, on reassembly if you use a small amount of silicone on the mating surfaces and bolt holes; it will be fairly well sealed. For a while I worked at a place that build electric crab and shrimp pot pullers for sportsmen and that's how they sealed the units.

some dealers offer a winch service, including a greasing, cleaning inside and out, and checking you cable for frays and strength.
