Need information quick...possible purchase
#1
I am going to look at a 2000 scrambler 400 4x2 tomorrow for a possible purchase. I has been piped, not sure what kind or brand yet, and I'm not sure if any clutch mods have been made. It also has an aftermarket bumber and nerfbars so some money has been spent on it in the past. I will find out alot more when I talk to the owner tomorrow and look it over. The price is below the low end on the book value so I'm not sure what to expect. What are some trouble areas or possible concerns I need to look for on one of these.
Thanks

I would just take it for a ride, check the normal things...does it run good....low, mid and high rpms....does the clutch/belt slip at all, does it start easy.....you could always pull the plug and do a plug check but that would be more for you to see if its jetted right when you get it home if it runs pretty good when you drive it....
check for straightness, is the rear axle bent, look for play in the suspension, check all the cables for fraying, etc.....verify controls operation, i.e. throttle, brakes, lights, switches, etc.
