03 P650 carb jetting
#2
I had my top half of the engine apart and rejeted at least 20 times, when I checked the sync it was still perfect. I would say unless you mess with the sync it will remain fine. I think I would discourage the jet kit unless its really needed. I bought one and the quad would not run good, no matter what I did It would have a low end cough and hesitation. After two weeks I finally found the fix. I took out the dynojet kit and went with stock needles with 2 shims under each. Now it revs perfectly down low. Just my experience.

The main reason I decided to re-jet the carbs was to try get rid of the missing/popping I experience mainly when the engine is cold, but lately it's been doing that carb pop thing even after it warms up.
Any suggestions?

Yes on Both Carbs. Colder temps frequently require a richer mixture setting & you may have to re-adjust mixture for the summer.
Ensure your engine is warm prior to making mixture adjustments if you have never set your mixture setting before:
First ride your machine until the fan kicks on at least once. Put it in neutral and with it running start with the front air screw and turn it counter clockwise tell it starts running funny (coughs, sputters, chokes, etc.) then turn it back clockwise tell it idles up and runs normal. Then Turn it 1/4 to more clockwise and leave it, Remeber or log down your setting so when you eed to adjust you will know what settings are. Do the same with the other air screw.
If you have set it before, just open/screw out the adjustment screw 1/4 turn more on both carbs.

1. counterclockwise until it runs crappy
2. clockwise until it starts runs crappy

If that doesnt work you can shim the needles with #4 washers. You can go up to 3 on each needle without a problem (I just added another) but with yours I would say one will do the trick. You can get them many places, I bought an assortment pack of like 80 at radio shack for $1.94. I hear hobby shops have them as well.

How thick is a #4 washer? Local hardware has .030 and .060 nylon washers.
Thanks.
Also, like tuffenuff said, be sure the engine is warm. I had ridden mine, then started working on something else. Went back to check the carbs - not realizing it had been two hours
Needless to say my mixture changes were not needed and got adjusted back right away.
Thanks.
