gutless kawasaki kfx50

Will removing the restrictor plate in exhaust help the low end power on this quad ? My son is 5 years old and he is getting frustrated not being able to get up the smallest of hills in our yard. I hope I didnt make a mistake by buying this quad.

how long ago did you buy it....yes the 50's are guttless...i have my 5 yrold on the pred 90...plenty of room to grow into...he started with the 50 at 4 and out grew it in one season...if you just bought...you might want to take a little hit and return to dealer and ask how much to upgrade...just a thought...

I don't care what anyone thinks about a new kid at age 4 riding a 90, its wrong! They need time to learn and to have the maturity to make decisions that can affect not only thier well being but that of others. Yes the kfx is a dog but it is perfect to learn on. Depending on what year you bought it should get a good boost from removing both restictors and the air filter(replace with a uni) then rejet it. My 8 year old is able to ride my 400 but he isn't aloud to because it isn't the responsible thing to do. Some kids can ride the bigger quad and a lot will say just turn in the throttle screw tell they are ready, that will be your choice when that time is to come, but in the meanwhile take my advise and stick with the basics at least until he or she is honed in thier skills. Okay let my beating begin

I think with strict supervision, 4 years of age is fine at low speeds in the back yard. At low speeds they are virtually impossible to flip on a flat surface. It's no more dangerous for the rider than a powerwheels.
It's dad and the flower bed getting run over that I'd worry about!

The lt50s are particulary gutless compared to most other brands though.Check out the speed shops like hetricks and WhR racing though.I've seen someone post about hopping one of these little LTs up with good results. In the long run its probably cheaper just to trade it in for a larger unit.Check out the 70cc models from Eton if you don't think your child can handle a 90 yet.

I see no problem if there is supervison. When i started riding dirtbikes I started with a Yamaha PW80 2 stroke and at the time I could put both feet on the ground. My brother and I always had to go out to the field and ride together so if somthing happened there was somebody to get help. I seemed to have done fine. It really should be up to the judgement of the parents because different children handle responsibility with maturity above or below "averidge" when I was 12 my parents dropped me off at the lake with our 100HP jetski with two friends for the day. A lot of friends werent allowed to come but I always respected what they had given me and stayed safe. If you dont give your kids a chance to prove their responsibility you will strangle their freedom their entire childhood.

First Suzuki doesn't make a 90
Second the 80 and 50 are totally different frames
Third manufactures that make thier 50 out of a 90 are just cutting costs and corners.
Fourth I would not buy a kfx or lt 50 knowing what I know now unless all the kid is going to do is ride around the yard or camp.
And fifth is I believe I mentioned the throttle screw

I agree quadduck...but anyway. Remove both restrictors and you will see a very noticable gain in power. I got tired of having to push him over little hills that he couldn't make from a dead stop, now it'll pull me over those same hills.
