Default reeds 2 stroke 400

Will the reeds being out on a 400 2 stroker keep it from starting if they are bad. The bike cranks is getting fuel and fire but won't start. Big backfire and loss of power then when shut down would not start. REplaced head gasket and cleaned carb and new plug and air filter also new fuel and oil filters. Still wont start. Found out about the reed valves going into the cylinder in a shop manual. Any thoughts here experianced ones.

Yes if your reeds are broken or shredded it would keep it from starting!

when the bike backfired it could have blown the seal on the clutch side out causing it to quit and not restart. check the reeds and if ok, look at the seal.

as for your ? on the 300 sprocket - won't hurt it a bit, will help on the trails you loose just a little topend speed but not much
