Scrambler Questions
#1
I just changed my '02 500 4x4 oil last weekend. I followed a previous post on how to do it. I am not getting the hissing sound when I clamp-off the top oil return line near the oil tank. Someone mentioned a slit in that line. What am I doing wrong, I have been through it 4 times. I clamp the line, start the engine at idle for a few minutes, shut it down, remove the clamp, and nothing.
Do you guys recommend the uni air filter or the K&N. Where I ride gets pretty dusty in the summer and I would like to run a foam prefilter.

There is no need to purge the line unless you removed the line to clean the screen out. And if you are clamping it in the right spot and it doesnt make the hissing sound, then there probably isnt any air in the system. Try doing it again, but removing the clamp while the engine is running. Both UNI and K$N are good filters. I personally like the K&N's. In your case with all the dust, you will definately want an Outerwears pre-filter on it.

as posted before the 4 stks need to be purged. i know many have changed oil and not done it without any problems, but after rebuilding 2 ppls motors from stuck top ends i can vouch for it. it only takes one time for the oil to drain from the pump when draining the crankcase and not reprime itself and uh oh- your motors done the hissing sound is from air being built up from case pressure, not air trapped in system. make sure you are clamping the line no more than 2 " from tank and its the top line going to air box. it only takes a minute to do - how long and how many $$$ to rebuild??
