Default SP 800 AWD system

Can anyone please tell me if the AWD system can be switched off on the SP800. Is there a two wheel drive option?

When you push the switch from 2WD to AWD at any ground speed, you automatically get all-wheel traction right when you need it.

Sportsman’s unique system senses when the rear wheels slip, then automatically engages both front wheels with full torque, delivering true all-wheel traction. Competitive ATVs with limited-slip front differentials are “3 ½ wheel drive.”

Thanks for the info! Seanny, how do you like your new SP800? Did you go for an extended warranty?

True All-Wheel Traction only comes from an ATV with a LOCKING front Differantal.
Some one correct me if I'm wrong but is'nt polaris AWD system still considered a 3 1/2 WD ?
I"ve notice on a bud's SP700 that when in the slick stuff I've seen only one tire spinning?

No offense but you are wrong. The Polaris front diff IS a locking unit that locks and unlocks automatically at speed when AWD has been previously selected, unlike the Kodiak where you must come to a complete stop and lock the front resulting in a total loss of momentum. The Polaris system is both easier and safer. If only one tire is spinning on that Sp700 then there is a problem with that machine. When operating properly if the front wheels are engaged they are locked together, it's all or nothing. When that front drive shaft sends power to the front diff both wheels spin together and the diff unlocks automatically when enough rear wheel traction is regained. The AWD system once switched on does all this in a fraction of a second without any input from the rider. It is a seamless transition from 2WD to 4WD back to 2WD, no stopping or slowing down, Polaris is the only machine to offer such an easy to use effective system.

I sure see that Polaris did a fine job on convincing you of their AWD system. Your alittle confused about several things but as long as your happy with it is all that matters. Do a little searching about problems with AWD polaris on this site. By the way, you dont have to stop(resulting in a total loss of momentum) a kodiak to put it in 4WD.

Yes, there have been problems with the Polaris front diffs, but as I said, if it is working properly then all four wheels get power as the front wheels are locked together when AWD is called upon. Yes, you can achieve "3 1/2" wheel drive with the Kodiak on the fly,(2 mph), but if you want to lock the front for AWD, (constant power to all 4 wheels), then you must stop, and if you want full engine power you have to press the override button. The difference between the two machines is that with the Kodiak the rider can manually select and unselect locked 4WD while the Polaris AWD system operates in 2WD until the rear wheels slip 1/5 of a turn then it automatically selects locked 4WD and unselects once rear wheel traction is regained, then the fronts spin independently with no power, this is all done automatically, seamlessly, at speed. I am not confused, nor have I been convinced of anything, there is no need for attitude, you asked to be corrected if wrong. There are different machines for different riders, some desire a manually locking 4WD system, others desire an automatically locking 4WD system. They each have their pros and cons.

Polaris has ALWAYS been known for their true 4wd. Technically Polaris does not even have a "differential" up front. If someone's Polaris only has one front wheel spinning in AWD then there is something wrong. It wasn't until recently that all (most) other manufactuers started putting a diff lock on their bigger 4x4's. What zerowick said is correct. I completely agree that both have their pros and cons and there are different machines for different riders.

the awd system is good untill you have a heavy load and have it in awd and the awd doesnt kick inuntill ur stuck because the front wheels engage when the rear wheels slip. I personaly dont like it. but just MO
