SP 800 AWD system

the awd system is good untill you have a heavy load and have it in awd and the awd doesnt kick inuntill ur stuck because the front wheels engage when the rear wheels slip. I personaly dont like it. but just MO
Have you personally experienced this? I have NEVER had a problem with the engagement of the front wheel when loaded or unloaded! This has been argued over time and time again on these forums, but the fact is the Polaris 4x4 system engages SEAMLESSLY when the rear wheels slip. According to my personal experience with my Scrambler and many other's machines there is no wait, no hesitation, no time to get stuck, nothing. Don't pass on some Honda salesman's lies. It takes the rear wheels to slip 1/5 of a turn, which is NOTHING when the tires are spinning at 15+ MPH! Don't confuse fact with opinion.
There are different machines for different riders, some desire a manually locking 4WD system, others desire an automatically locking 4WD system. They each have their pros and cons.
Just my opinion on your opinion. I don't mean to start (too big of) an argument.

Unless you can speak from experience then don't bother bashing a machine. It's all about personal preference. I don't have a problem relying on an automatic AWD system, especially when it has worked very well for my purposes. I haul a trailer loaded with a dually wheel barrow, three 32 gallon garbage containers and four 20 gallon containers filled with horse manure about 1/4 mile uphill into a hay field three times a week. More than 1/2 of the trip is not plowed and I have never not made it all winter. I have never been able to notice when the front wheels kick in, it is totally seemless. My Sp600 has incredible traction while pulling a heavy load and is next to unstoppable without the trailer.

The more you quote word for word from Polaris's web site the more I dislike this AWD system. First off the kodiak can shift on the fly and it engages the 4wd system. The overide is for reverse. So what good is shifting on the fly for if it takes a 1/5 wheel slip to engage the AWD? So if there is no slip then your really not in AWD?? How safe would it be say if your on some rocks about ready to roll over and your telling me that I got to let something "SENSES " a slip before it engages? You've got your self convinced but not me. I was ready to buy one till I learned about it. I only get an attitude when someone else with a attitude trys brainwashing me to make themself feel better. Speaking of saftey tell me a little about it's 2 wheel engine braking system.

As an all purpose 4x4 the polaris system is hard to beat and simple/forgiving to use. There are certainly more specific systems for very specific types of riding.
The polaris's ride like they are in 2wd (when in awd) and dont have that tank feel of locked 4wd.
When the front tires are needed,,,,they catch traction (usually without the riders knowledge),,,,and when they arent needed the back tires provide the power.
The nature of the system actually saves on wear and tear,,,because the 4wd is only being used a fraction of the time compared to a locked system.
The system does have its drawbacks also. 4x4 compression braking just aint the same on a polaris. They do have the EBS to compensate,,,but just not the same.

If polaris really wanted to screw the rest of the market,,,,,they would offer an optional 3 1/2 wd system with a locker for all the traditional guys/gals.
Although,,,,buy then,,,you will probably be able to buy a jap-bike with an overrunning clutch in it.

Nobody is trying to brainwash you, if you don't like the Polaris AWD then you delfinitely have a right to your opinion. Zerowick just pointed out that it's not a 3 1/2 wheel drive when the AWD is engaged and was offering his experience with the system. I happen to think also that it is a great system too. When the AWD does engage due to slight rear wheel slip you honestly cannot tell that it is engaged. It is very quick and seamless. The only drawback to the system is rear wheel engine braking, but that's why you have brakes. I have never had a problem with rear wheel engine braking.

As far as the second part I pulled from your quote do you rely on sensors for your seatbelts and airbags in your car? Sounds like you would be leary of them too.
