SP 800 AWD system
#21
Also, there are no "sensors" in the Polaris system, other than the switch and the coils, the system is entirely mechanical. The coils are on whenever the AWD switch is on, so nothing electric or electronic plays any part in the engaging and disengaging of the front drivetrain.
It may be fun to pick on use, but we have to be defensive to protect ourselves from your teasing .

I've got a 2000 SP500 and time with my cousin's 2002 SP 500HO, and new SP800. I will maintain that the awd is not significantly more effective than the 3wd on most honda and zuki atvs. Whether you want to claim its self-locking or not, the outcome is still less impressive than that of a fully locking front differential with manual controls.
And if you want to complain about stopping to engage the diff lock, try a Kawasaki.
Am I the only one that realizes that this is not the topic that was started? And if you start quoting Polaris' website on thier superiority (zerowick), you should expect to get a little opposition.

Sounds like your a little cranky today, go take a nap and then come back and chat.
I recommend you do a little research on overrunning clutches from hilliard corporation.
Quite a load of attitude from someone who knows little of what they are talking about.

the 20% allows the front end to steer,,,,same with a differential
fact is the front end is always locked,,,,,it is just being overrun by the rear wheels
As for the sensors,,,,,well,,,,they just dont exist,,,,,,,like someone already said,,,,,the system is mechanical.

Here we go again.
Actually, the rears don't spin a 1/5 of a turn, it's when they spin 20% faster than the front. The difference in rotation all depends on the speed the quad is moving. If you're on a muddy hill and try to start up the hill, which I've done to demonstrate to a yammi guy, then the rear tires only turn about an inch before the fronts engage. It's virtually impossible to see the slip with the naked eye.
As far as people needing to be locked in 4wd for more security, whatever makes you feel better. Just don't go into anything too deep without locking the front diff, then try to steer out of it without stopping. That's one thing us Polaris owners don't have to worry about....stopping.

the polaris system is fully locked all the time. in 2x4 the rear wheels are locked, as why when you make a turn, you pull up the ground with you, and the front wheels are locked also, but there not being driven by the shaft. once you put it in 4x4, a signal is sent to the front differential activating it so when your rear tires spin 20% faster then the fronts a clutch engages the front wheels creating a fully locked 4x4 system. although its a fully locked 4x4 system, its not like the Bombarier system that applys more torque to the wheels that arnt slipping. Polaris' is entirly mechanical. many people are discouraged by the polaris system because you dont get to choose when its in 4x4 and when its out of it, but since its mechanical, the entire system reacts at the same moment, and the gearing is so close that if you popped a wheelie in 4x4, as soon as the front tires leave the ground, your fronts are engaged, in a split second.
