New member question for a new cat.

First of all, for my first post here, I hope I'm not making too much out of this issue.
For years, all I would own were Honda's until last week when I purchased a lime green 500 manual. The first thing I did, (well, after putting on bi/tri claws) was silicone the recoil starter opening to keep mud from getting in there. The reason was because I had a Honda Rancher that needed a complete engine rebuild after mud & sand seeped into the engine through the seal inside the recoil starter. After riding all weekend, I checked it last night, and there was alot of mud on the pull rope. Is there a way to seal these things or is it even an issue with the cat's?

i never had a problem with mine and i put 2600 miles on it.
and it still ran as good the day i traded it in.
i wouldent worry to much about it i was told that the seal in there is very good and nothing would get in.

ive never had anything wrong with mine either, same amount of miles as mudblaster and ALOT off mud boggs. there is a little drain hole under the pull start to drain water/dirt out so nothing with stay inside for to long.
