Default 99 Scram 400 broke cyl flange

Hey everyone. I got a 99scrambler 400 4x4 with a broke cylinder. It broke on the flange where it bolts to the crank case. Has this happened to anyone else? What was the cause? What was done to avoid it again? I don't have a clue as to what happened. I was out towing the kids on a sled, ran perfect. Loaded it up, took it home, put in the garage. Started and ran perfect. Next time I went to take it out it back fired and would only run if choked and idled way up. I figured air leak. Looked around and found base gasket sticking out and the flange was broke clean through. Any Idea's? When it comes time for a tear down, What would any one recommend for pistons (stock or weisco?). What about the cylinder it self (stock or ported?). I currently have a FMF turbine core pipe and a hotseat clutch kit which was installed two days before it broke down. Just a coincesidence or not? The pipe has been on it for three years, just the clutch kit was added. Any helpfull advise would be great before I tear into it
Thanks

This has happened to quiet a few people. You need to get in touch with Rick Ritter,he can repair the cylinder and set you up with a new Wiseco piston. For extra insurance you should get the girdle kit from him as well.Sorry about your troubles.

The motor will rev higher with a pipe and clutch kit and the stock piston is part of the problem. Get a Wiseco.
Ricks a good guy to deal with, got my stuff from him.

Sorry about that. The same thing happened to me. Rick welded mine up just fine. You might look on ebay. They have cylinders with pistons for around 200.00. Definately get a girdle kit to keep this from happening again.

What and where do I get a girdle kit. I looked at Rick Ritters website and did not see anything about a girdle kit. What's the going rate for getting one of these welded up? Would it just be cheaper to locate a good used one and have it cleaned up and bore matched to a new piston?

I believe I paid 200.00 to have mine repaired but I had 250.00 worth of porting done the cylinder so it was worth it to me. If you haven't invested any money porting in it then just get the one on ebay that has been bored and comes with a piston to match the bore and all the gaskets you'll need for 199.00 "Buy it now" price.
