250R axle carrier, 400ex?
#1
Hey I got a question for all you Honda guys...and gals.
My buddy recently bought a 87 250R. We tore it down only to discover the axle carrier is smashed, cracked, bent, twisted, and pretty much everything else. Moneys tight right now but he can get ahold of a used 400ex carrier for cheep, will this work?
Thanks

No one? Common guys. And does anyone know about the bearings in the swingarm? I took them out of his 250R and am going to be replacing them soon. My question is should the bore be straight through when there is no bearings, bushings or dust caps installed? The reason I ask is because there looks to be two peices of metal, almost like circlips in each side that I can't tell if they are part of the swingarm, or are just peices seized in.

Im almost positive the carriers are the same and can be swapped< i have had both apart but never at the same time.
for the swing arm bearings check out riva parts finder , search google, you can look up micro fiche exploded parts drawings

I just wasn't sure, because it looked different then anything I have worked on. On a normal swingarm, when there are no bearings installed the bore is clean and the same depth all the way through, maybe this is different?

Thanks for the link. Based on the image it dosn't even look like there is needle bearings inside. Maybe someone with a 400ex can jump in and let me know whats in there. Most quads I've worked with had needle bearings on each end with the bushing in the middle.

If you look at the drawing item #26 is a needle roller bearing containned in its own owter race shell.
I have built both 400ex and 250 r swing arms they both use this set up but the kits are different for the two bikes. as the ex mounts through the engine and the R does not.

It's a 87. The 88's had different swingarms on them. On the 87's there are two mounting tabs, left and right, each with it's own bushings and bearings. On the 88 there was just one long mount that held a large bushing with bearings on each side. Take a look at the different years, youll see what I mean. There was bearings that came out of this swingarm, but from the pic it dosn't show it the same way I took it apart. Maybe the owner before had it messed up or somthing.
