I just picked up a 2005 sportsman 400 and love it. I got the deal where the winch is 49 dollars but dealer said they would install it was in a rush at the time so i didnt get it installed and I was wondering if anyone has installed a winch and how difficult it is

 

It's VERY easy! Go ahead and do it you self.

I'm assuming the 400 is prewired like the larger '05 machines. They should have given your the prewired winch for it. Even if it doesn't have prewire, its fairly easy.

 

the atv is prewired for the winh. The front shroud comes off, u install the winch and harness, mount the shroud back, hook the wires to the solenoid and install the toggle controll switch and remove the heat shrink from the pos cable by the batt and ur ready to use,the hardest part is cutting out the winch hole cover so that it looks good, use a jugsaw, or router to first cut it, and a dremmell or die grinder to finish it upp. Slick as s###.

Hey guys and gals, I am new to the forum and I just purchased a 2006 Sportsman 500 this past saturday. I also ordered a Gorilla 2500 lb winch off ebay for it and I hope to get it by Friday. I was wondering do I have to take the front "rack" off to install? I haven't ever installed a winch before b/c I have always had race quads. I am a little intimidated by doing this my self, but have been told it is pretty easy. Any help in advance would be apreciated. Oh and sorry for the post dig. Thanks
