Is there any special way that I can make my 250ex sit higher without buying overpriced lift kits?

If you mostly trail ride i would suggest taller tires. We put larger mudlites on our 250ex and its pretty darned awersome and goes where you wouldnt believe.

I'm not even sure there are lift kits for the 250EX. Perhaps one for a recon may work? I agree, get bigger tires. Be careful how big and how heavy though, its easy to overload the engine.
