Scrambler Nerf Bars and 4X4 question
#1
Hey guys Im new to the forum, but I've been reading the posts for some time now. I finally had some questions of my own. You can see what kind of wheeler I have from my sig...its a '97 Scrambler. I was wondering where I can get some racing nerf bars. I have seen one person on here who has them...i think his name is duneaholic...if you could help I would appreciate it. Also I was wondering if it is possible to take the front drive shafts out of my machine. Im goin to a track this weekend and wouldnt mind shedding a couple of pounds, that and I hardly use it...because I hate the mud, it just messes things up. Anyway any help that I can get would be greatly appreciated. Thanks again.

Hey Dubear. I have the AC nerf bars on mine. It wasn't really all that hard to put the nerf bars on. Just take off the mud flaps, take off all the nuts and bolts holding on the floorboards on , then you'll basically have the floorboards off. Then you will have two square pegs on both sides. You will need to cut the front peg off on both sides of the machine. Then if you get the AC nerf bars (for a banshee) then you can connect the two sides together with a piece of pipe then U-clamp them down to the frame. The back just bolt to the rear pegs like they were meant to. I then took the pegs off of the floorboard and reused them on the rear peg. If you have anymore questions let me know. Welcome to the Forums.

thanks alot duneaholic....im kinda lost on the whole rear peg thing...i had a 400ex before so i understand how the two front halfs meet and connect to the frame and i get that the back of the nerf bars connect to the back of the pegs...kinda...then you lost me on the floor board peg part...maybe im just lost all together...im kinda dumb youve gotta give me some time. if you could try to explain it one more time for me i would appreciate it. ill look at your pics and try to figure it out from there. thanks again

yeah i just realised that my front drive shaft may be in the way of the front connection of the nerf bars. on my 400ex they went on the top of the frame is it the same for the scram? i want to make it a 2x4 anyway so if it is in the way im gonna try and take the drive shaft out if it wont screw anything up...im just waiting for an answer from someone about that. thanks

You might want to talk to CED. I think his was a 4X4 at one time.

I have DG nerf bars for a banshee on my trailblazer 400. But it is only a 2wd. Im not sure how it would work on a 4wd. I have the fronts of mine set up like duneaholic said but the backs i have a peice of 90degree bend metal welded to the frame and bolted to the bars on both sides. I just put them on but i have to redo the back parts because they bend to easy and im makin braces this weekend. I would do it just like duneaholic said. I think thats how im goin to do it this weekend.

First Dubear, I am guessing from your name you may cheer for the wrong color of blue. I hope I am wrong because I am a die hard Tarheel fan.
However, I (with input from dunaholic and a few others) installed the pro preg w/heelguard nerfs for a banshee on my 05 4x4. A link to my pics and more discussion is in this thread Nerf bars for 2003 Scrambler 500 4x4. Hope this helps a little.
Not sure about pulling the front drive out. The only reference I have is my wifes 05 Trailblazer. The nerfs would be much easier to put on that (if she would let me touch it).
