Does this sound like a TPS issue on 04.5 700 EFI?
#1
This last weekend I noticed the following scenario occurred on my 04.5 700 EFI:
-Temperature about 32 degrees Farenheit
-Start up ATV and idle starts out at about 1050, then drops to around 900, then at about 850 RPM it dies.
-This occurs about 5 times
-I pull plugs thinking maybe I have a bad one. Both looked good.
-Try again after replacing plugs. Same thing, it dies after about 30 seconds.
-Last try I snap the throttle about 3-4 times
-ATV starts backup and runs perfectly.
-I ride 60 miles that day no problems
-Next day I start up cold and immediately notice a 850-900RPM idle so I know problem is still there.
-I snap the throttle once and idle immediate goes up to normal 1200RPM warmup speed.
-I ride another 50 miles that day with no problems.
Problem seems to occur when cold in this instance and seems to be fixed by a quick snap of throttle. Revving throttle doesn't fix but snap of throttle lever does.
I have an extended warranty but just wanted your throughts. Service manual seems to indicate that my TPS might be out of adjustment or defective. No error codes have been tripped in the EFI control unit.
I should add that I haven't had the throttle cable recall performed. I planned to have my dealer do this when I took in for this issue.
Thanks!

I'm definitely gonna check this out. This was suggested on another forum. I'm thinking this may be what caused my issues last summer that resulted in a fuel pump replacement. Symptoms are similiar.
Thanks!

ahhh you must leave your ATV outside like i do!
mine did the EXACT same thing ONCE. it was a very cold morning and i went out to plow snow. i just gave it a little blurb of the throttle and it was no big deal.
think about it, it's damn cold out there!
since then, i've been keeping my fuel tank FULL. condensation was forming inside my tank with the big differences in daytime/nighttime temps.
out of habit now whenever i start it cold i just naturally give it a little tap of the throttle after it starts.
no problem.

Ok... I had a chance to check our ETC. 700 started up with same symptoms before. I began to adjust the cable tension for ETC and was able to bring it back to a steady idle adjusting the cable. The following cold morning it started up and ran as I would expect normally. I then took it out a couple times that day. The first run it performed flawlessly. The second run after a lot of wide open throttle runs in the snow I noticed after I came to a stop that the idle was erratic and I began to get some popping from the exhaust. I tried snapping throttle but didn't seem to help. I drove a couple miles to get over the crest of the mountain and when I pulled over to adjust ETC cable again it began to run fine again.
Do you think this is something related to the ETC sticking? CDI bad?
I'm taking it in tomorrow to address the fuel line/throttle recalls. I am going to have my dealer look at it. It is under an extended waranty.
Thanks!

Fortunately dealer told me today he was able to replicate issue. He thinks it might be throttle body or possibly another bad fuel pump. Polaris reps told him that even though I had my pump replaced last summer I may have gotten one of the bad ones as a replacement. Some bad fuel pumps were apparently sent out. They are also fixing the AWD on all the time issue.
