which Which AAEN pipe. spark plug question, Auto Zone tach.
#1
Ok so as usual I have some questions.
I raised my compression to 12to 1 I read recently that you need to run a cooler plug, I use NGK Br8es, should I go to a cooler plug? One or two stages cooler?
Also I recently installed a tach from Auto Zone, I can;t remeber the name but I have seen thers that use it , I followed the instructions to the T but it doesn't seem completely accurate. It registers lower when I cut my lights on. (I do not have a battery or starter, but do have a bat eliminator). Also today at lunch I was reving the motor up and with the polaris Yellow Primary I was getting the motor all the way up to 7000 rpm (176 or 185 pounds at shift out depending on resource of specs). It was in neutral. This RPM seems High.
Lastly I have decided I will go with AAEN for a pipe, if any of you have followed my posting I have been in a great pipe debate for some time. I am trying to decide between the AAEN top end and Torquer pipe. I mostly ride woods, and while I have not been yet I will occasionally go to the dunes. I do get chances to run wide open on fire roads etc. So here is what I am thinking.
I have changing the front sprocket down to a 5 minute process so I am thinking these two options. For both I would set up clutching, I would prefer not to take my engagement over 75pounds.
option1
Run the tourquer for pipe for my woods riding and Make the gears taller for the dunes or open areas. 14 tooth front sprocket
option2
Run the top end pipe and gear my self down for the woods 11 or 12 tooth front sprocket. and then go back to the 13 for the woods. I am a bit of a speed freak but being practical I can already get fast enough to hurt myself with trees.
I have heard the top end is peaky, but looking at AAEN's Dyno graph the pipe look the same, can anyone tell me were the top end pipe starts to make its power? also what clutch setuo you have?
Also I have decided against RCR or HPD there too hard for me to get ahold off.
all and any help is appreciated, new pics coming soon.

I ran an Aaen Torquer on my old 400 Sportsman and it was great for pulling and mud but doesnt have the rpms for hard fast riding.I would say go with the topend pipe and get the matching clutch kit.As for your taching 7000 with the yellow primary I run one in my 500 and was taching close to that until I went up a few grams in weights now I am at 6750.

The only thing I personally didnt like about the top end pipe was that it was very loud. Not out the exhaust loud, but the expansion chamber had a real loud "tingy" sound. For some reason it drove me crazy.
RCR stays very busy, but keep calling (dont e-mail). Rick does all the phone answering. Call him around 5:00 in the evening, you'll get ahold of him. He always answers the phone even at night.
On the tach, make sure the red wire from the tach is hooked up before the battery eliminator. That will help keep voltage at a high level and it should be fine. I had no problems with my setup.
And last but ot least, you can make the motors rpm very high on to pif you rev it in neutral. Once the clutch shifts out then the motor will climb up with out the load on it, and it will happen very quickly. Once under a load the rpms will steady and do like they are supposed to.

thanks guys.
Bubba297 Now you have me thinking about a HPD as I don't want a loud pipe setup. Im also am not a big fan of that dirt bike sound.
I figured neutral wasn;t the best method for testing my rpms. lol
