I here people talk of tricking AWD for slow downhill crawling but not how to do it.
Downhilling not a problem now but it would be nice to crawl very slow without using the brakes. 2000 sp500 26in. mudrunners.

EBS works fine, only on the rear wheels. I live on a Christmas Tree farm in the mountians. Lots of very very steep rough hills. A friends full time 4X4 crawls down these hills with little sliding of the tires compared to my sp500. It just feels a little more planted. No comparison any where else, climbing, ride, mud, wet rocky trails, power. Not that big a deal. Most people I ride with are agressive riders. I plan to buy another quad next week with the wife and kids in mind, most likely a mid size full time 4X4. Just thought it would make riding down these long rough hills with normal riders following behind easer. Race ya to the bottom!!!!

no seriously. it has somehting to do with holding down the override button while you backup.....i don't remeber how my buddy explained it so I'll let the knowledgable Polaris guys answer this..

IF I REMEMBER THERE WAS A POST ON THIS TOPIC SEVERAL MONTHS AGO.
I TRIED IT AND IT DOES WORK .YOU ENGAGE AWD THEN YOU MUST HOLD THE YELLOW OVERRIDE BUTTON DOWN. YA KNOW THE ONE USED FOR HIGH SPEED REVERSE MANUVERS.
NOW MIND YOU ,YOUR'S MAY NOT WORK ,BUT I HAVE TRIED IT AND IT DOES WORK.

HOPE THIS HELPS,

Here is the procedure as I remember it. Just b4 going down a steep hill, stop and put it in reverse, press over ride button, and back up a short distance. Keep the over ride pressed and put it back in a forward gear and take off down the hill. It worked for me. I'm not sure if you have to back up to make it work though. Would be nice if all you had to do is have it in awd and hit the over ride. Have to try that next time I'm out.

I know what you mean. I've forgotten to engage 4WD a time or two and come to a steep hill. Its alittle unnerving when you go skidding down the hill on your rear wheels only! Especially if your were expecting all four wheels to be braking your skid!

What I do is just start down the hill,I stop on the hill hold the over ride button in, then back up the rear wheels have to slip so it can engage the 4x4,You will feel it when it does, dont let the the override button off,While holding the override button in put it in 4lo and start down the hill.Works great,But you have to pay attention because I think it must have a little bitt different gear ratio front to rear ,It feels like the front wheels are pulling the rear wheels so if your not careful the back can slide sideways. But it still works awsome.

Thor you will find on really steep stuff you will get rear wheel slippage till you develope the technique of giving her gas and pumping the brake and I am talking about stuff that is nearly straight up and down. Anyway Bass all you have to do is put it in reverse hold the over ride button give it gas hard as you hold the over ride button shift into forward and there you are 4 wheel hold back but be warned when going down something steep with a sharp turn in it, in this mode the sportsman is very hard to steer. After a while of getting used to how the bike comes down steep stuff you won't even use this method...
