Default Trail Boss engine repair

Is it possible to remove the Head and Cylinder on a 1988 Trail Boss 4X4 without removing the complete engine. My compression is 100 PSI and I want to install new piston rings. If so can the Cylinder be installed over the piston without much problem? My dealer won't tell me, he wants to do the repair. I owned a Small Engine Shop years back, but that was before ATVs were popular in my area.

Yes you can remove the cylinder without removing the whole engine. Take the seat off, remove the nose cover and loosen the gastank. Prop up the tank as much as you can and then you will have enough room for the cylinder to come off. It will be tight but it can happen.
