At what intervals do you guys check or repack your wheel bearings? I have been riding in alot of water and some mud lately, is this something I should check? I have a 450ES can I replace factory ones w/ sealed bearings? If so where can I get ones that fit.

i dunno about the 450

but the ones on my 250x are common

just take one down or a serial number of one.....to a bearing stockest
you should easily find a set to fit

.....keep grease up to them regularly
.....i use marine grease (green stuff)

if using sealed bearing pick the seal out and pack full of grease with a medical sering (without oout the needle bit on the end!)
......the grease they put in in my opinion is never good enough

I don't think there is any set time or mileage when they should be checked. If your running in water and mud a lot i would check them every third trip, which to some people this is to much but i enjoy spending the time going though my quad. I feel confident the quad will never let me down when i spend the time. But if they do need changing you can get the bearing and outer seal from any bearing shop which will be half the cost compaired to the dealer. It comes from the same manufacturer except it won't have the honda #. The inner is different, you have to go to honda which will surprize the hell out of you when you see how much it is. As far as i have been able to find out because of its design you will never be able to get it as a sealed bearing.

Read my post on Foreman Front End. I take my drums apart front and back about once a year. Usually in the fall. Your back brakes start to need adjusting everytime you use them then it needs done. The front will seem to want to stop you but not grab like they should then it is probably time to do it. Its not that hard and just need a few tools. If you need anymore info just email me.

oops The wheel bearings are exellent on the bike stock just checked and did all this last week 8500kms and wheel bearings are fine. When you seal the drums the wheel bearings are sealed to.

Check the whole bike over every time after you ride. Wash it and then check it. Dried mud kills bearings. As the mud dries it dries the greas right out of the bearings. If you check the bike and find a problem after you ride you can get the parts by the next weekend. If not Saturday or sunday morning is a bad time to find out your bike is needs repaired.
