Arctic Cat 2001 300 runs only on full choke
#1
Hi
Can anyone tell me tell me how to correct this problem? The bike has run excellent since new. However on a recent outing with the bike warmed up and the choke off it started to backfire going down hills or on de-acceleration. Idle became poor or no idle. If I run with the choke on full it runs purrfect with a normal idle. It has a new plug and air filter in it as well as a full tank of fresh gas. If I set the idle so that it does 5 minutes later it will race as it idles so i have to set it back and then it just stalls. Any suggestions welcome.

Defintiely sounds lilke something stuck in or plugging the jets in the carb. If it was stored for a long period of time you might have gotten some junk in the carb from extremely high priced high quality gas that we are paying for.
You may also want to check that your choke is operating properly. I sometimes have mine start sticking due to build-up in the carb. OR the choke cable lash could be off and the choke could be opening and closing as you ride.
I believe the choke opens a bypass valve letting more air and fuel go directly into the carb and bypassing both your high and low speed jets.
So I would check the choke cable lash and then take the carb off and open it up and clean it if the problem is not fixed. If you take the jets out to clean them make sure you get the little O-ring seals at the base of the het back on or it will cause you problems. (had that happen to me before)
Hope this helps

I would like to suggest something simple. Could you be operating your choke backwards. I own a 2004 400i and the owners manual tells me to press the lever down fully to activiate the choke and to return the lever to the full upright position to de-activate it.
On my bike there is an arrow next to my choke lever pointing towards the back of the bike. This is the on position for the choke and this is the full upright position. To de-activate the choke I have to push the lever forward. I have confirmred this with a mechanic at my Arctic Cat dealer.
