D1 for speed. D1 is designed to keep the engine's RPM in the peak HP range, D2 keeps RPMs in peak torque range.

If your not towing too heavy of a load you can keep it in D1 but if your towing a lot of weight just use low.

if you put it in low its auto or manual the d1 or d2 dosent matter.
and if its auto its is set for max tork and power because its in low.

Each time we have reached our highest speed we were in ESP.

In D modes, the transmission is capable of achieving overdrive. I would have to think if the trans were to go into an "overdrive" you could reach a higher speed in D2 seeing how the trans runs the engine at a lower RPM. By the time, as an exapmle, the engine reaches 4000 rpm it should be going faster in a higher gear.

I'm like Spectra...it goes faster in ESP. D1 has just a hair more torque than D2...or at least D1 gets my tires goin just a hair better. D2 is for "loose traction" situations...like gravel
