Okay, I found out just how well built the rear of the SP is. And I am not happy. Seems in order to get at the inside of the wheel carrier, behind the hub, after removing the castle nut and hub, the snap ring, you have to remove 3 more bolts, one on top and 2 at the bottom of the bearing carrier. Here I found that the rubber boot fits inside the aluminum casing, and there is nothing else inside it. Found that the rubber boot was torn exposing the CV joint to dirt and such. Also found another grease zerk buried behind the plastic shield as seen from the rear. The only way to grease it is to remove the torx screws that hold the plastic on to get at the zerk! And I thought I had found them all. Probably have to get a new cv joint for both sides now, and will construct a much more solid protector around the rubber boot covering that expensive CV joint. Solution, sell your Polaris before the warranty runs out, and start owning 2 per year.

 

I had to replace the right rear axle joint on my 2000 sportsman 500 with 200 miles on it.I did not catch a torn boot immediately!I was not impressed.
