I have a 00 Xplorer 400cc 4x4.Im eating rear brake pads like they are nothing.3 sets in 650 miles.I had replaced the front pads with Polaris severe duty pads at around 350 miles and am having good luck with the fronts.I paid 35 dollars for BOTH front sets of severe duty pads.

Im on the third set in the rear.I cant seem to find anyone with a listing for the severe duty pads for the rear.I checked Dennis Kirk,Auto Parts Depot, and Rocky Mountain ATV,nobody lists anything for a 2000 model.Im pretty sure that they are the same as my 99 Sportsman was.EPI has them, for 72 dollars. It'll be a cold day in hell before I pay that much money for ONE set of rear brake pads.Aint that something,I can buy both front pads for 35 dollars, they want twice as much for just the rear.I payed 53 dollars today for stock rear Polaris pads,Im getting sick of this to.

Anyone got any numbers that I can call? How about some part Numbers to,thanks,
Bill

Have you thought about replacing them with the solid brass brake pads made by Box Brakes? The owner sent me a picture of these. I am going to send him an email with some question. I think he is getting $35 for a set for the rear. I think these would wear a lot better than anything else on the market.

Bill, I just put severe duties on my 00 Explorer 400. I ordered the EBC severe duty pads from Dennis Kirk. They don't show one for the Explorer but the pads they list for the 00 Scrambler are the Identical pads . I put these on 200 miles ago and I have had great luck with them thus far. If memory serves they were about $34.00. If you want the part # I'll dig it up for you. The EBC rear severe duty pads for the 00 Scrambler are IDENTICAL to the Explorer pads. No difference whatsoever.

Bill,

Try the solid brass rear brakes by boxbrakes.com.

The owner's name is Gary Box, and he will be more than glad to help you out.

After reading Box Brakes website, I think he does the brake manufacturing in his spare time and has a full time job. You may have trouble getting a hold of him during the day. I would drop him an email and ask him a good time to call.

Hey Bill,
Tried to call you tonight, guess you were out riding. Anyway, drop me an email at gbox@hawcomfg.com That's my work address. Or you can call me at home between 6:00pm and about 9:00pm CST.
Figured this was the best way to leave you a message.
Thanks
Gary

Bill,

Did you decide on what to do about the brakes? Have you looked at the picture of the set he sent me? If not, do a search under brakes. Atving posted the pic for me. I've got the set, but I'm planning on waiting until the ones on the bike wear out before I put these on. They look really nice!!

Waylan,
Yes.I ordered a set of rear brakes from Mr Box last wk.I to will wait until my rears wear out to install them.He said he is going to be working on getting us Polaris guys some front pads to.

I sketched a tracing of my rear pads on a piece of paper,I sent him the check along with the sketching,I am now awaiting the pads.Im looking forward to trying them when these wear out,
Bill
