according to the repair manual the cylinder head bolts should be torqued to 18-20 ft. lbs and the cylinder base bolts 25-29 ft. lbs someone else will have to help with the other questions cause mines still stock but not for long

I WENT WITH WIESCO ONLY HAD TO GO 2 THOUSANDS OVER SO NOT MUCH MORE THAN STOCK. ALSO JUST GOT BOYSEEN REEDS WITH STOCK CAGE. AND THE GREEN SPRING IN THE CLUTCH EVERYTHING ELSE IS STOCK. THE MODS I DID HAVE MADE A BIG DIFFERENCE IN PERFORMANCE THE BIG HEAVY 4X4 WILL REALLY GET WITH IT NOW. I PLAN ON RACING WITH MY 400EX,300EX AND LT250 JUST TO SEE HOW IT COMPARES. IT WILL DO WHEELIES EASYLY NOW SO I KNOW IT HAS CHANGED THE OVERALL PERFORMANCE.

CEET400ex,
Thanks for answering my question. What clearance between the piston and cylinder did you use? Also, what made you rebuild the engine? I have heard of skirt breakage being a problem with some 400 engines. Did you experience this? I have a standard-sized new wiseco piston to put in after warranty runs out to avoid skirt breakage, and this is where my questions are coming from. One more question and I'll let you alone: When cold, do you have to let the bike warm up longer with the new piston? Thanks!

I replaced mine because the bike got hot and burnt the piston on the exhaust side. I only went up two thousands so it dosen't sem to take any longer to warm up. i am not sure of the clearance I just had the shop bore the jug and they gave me the piston for the bore they did and I put it together
