Buying in Canada vs USA

It appears that all the Polaris & Honda dealers in the Northwest want MSRP, or pretty close for their ATV’s. Example; After taxes, assembly and other bull dung fees the best price I’ve found local is $7200 out the door For a Polaris Sportsman 500. They sell the exact same product in Chattanooga, TN for $5533 out the door, but that is too far to drive. I hate the idea of giving a local dealer an extra $1600 just because he is nearby.
Anyone here have any experience purchasing a new ATV in Canada then bringing it into the US?
Now if someone knows of a dealer in the Northwest that has good prices let me know. I'd love to spend my dollars at home.

We get so screwed in Canada on pricing. I live on the east coast of Canada. I called 10 different dealers this week and they were all within $100 of each other. I just bought an 05 Rubicon (w GPS, 2-up seating, warn winch) for CA$12,300, taxes in. Using the exchange rate today, that's US$9,919. Sucks to buy things here!!

I just bought a new 05' 450r in Klamath Falls OR. for $6399. I live in Reno NV and the local dealer is charging around $7300. I also contacted a dealer in Medford OR. they qouted me the same as Klamath. Another thing to think about is they have no sales tax in Oregon either.

bushboy is right, they really yank our chain here on prices, and i'm on the westcoast, not overly far from you Mr. Famous Potatoes . the US exchanges rate was around 50-54% for us about 1-2 years ago. so any US price, we'd multiply by 1.5 and be pretty close. well, that made stuff like quads more expensive, cuz the Japanese would set a price for the US and we'd just multiply it for the currency conversion. well, now it's like 25-27%, BUT our dealers haven't adjusted the prices at all. From what i see on ebay, you guys seem to have way better prices than us. shipping is about $200 for a crated quad...something to consider. what about Montana? no sales tax there either.

Just watch your figures when you compare prices if you are considering buying in a state that does not require sales tax. Sales tax is not an issue if you are only going to ride on private land but many states require proof of sales tax to be registered to ride on public lands. It makes some of these comparision prices a little misleading until you realize that you need to add anywhere from 6% to 9% on top of these low prices to get a real 'apples to apples' figure.
