Scrambler 400 biggest tires/ best trail upgrades
#1
Hello yall, i pick up my 2001 scrammy 400 2x4 tommorow. And i've got a few questions. I'm going to be doing ALOT of bayou running/ Mud/ and trails. My friend has a fl350 honda with 25" dirt divels and he never gets stuck, and they last forever, i'm wanting to go with the same tire but what is the largest tire i can go with? Also I'm tippin the scales at 275 (quit smoking 3 packs a day, gained 40 fin pounds!) what are the best most cost efective mods for trail/bayou/mud riding? I also ride at night in bayou's and need it to stay on the quit side do to the homes that back up to the bayou's. Thanks alot yall, i cant wait to tear it up, it's been along time comming !28yrs!

This is a touchy subject here, with the gear/ tire sise. Most people say dont mess with it, but Ive been running 24s for years. Ive found that a 25" tire is too heavy for the 400 even with 13-38 gearing but you may want to try a 25" mud lite with like 12-38. As long as your in the mud with the 4x4 in gear there wont be a problem

Got my Scrambler today (bought dam time!). Man i love this atv! It is all stock 2001. Loves to pull wheellies, but i ran my buddies raptor and got beat alot worse than i thought i would. Can i keep my stock sileincer and run a good trail pipe, get v-force reeds, cylinder port and head milled, oversize piston, clutch kit and Crab work, to bring the gape alittle closer?

the silencer {in my case } made more differance/and noise then the pipe- both made a noticeable difference, i would highly recomend the reeds, bigger carb and clutch kit!
Have you thought about a gear change? i put a 40 tooth sprocket in the rear, huge differance/it pulled harder off the line and i gained top end speed also!
