K&N FILTER OIL ON FOAM FILTER,
#1
Has anyone done this I saw a guy doing it, and it sure seems a lot easier, I was just wondering if anyone else is doing it, or if you think it would work right. Sure seems like a good idea!

I would not do it if it were me. The K&N oil is made for K&N filter which are NOT foam, but are a gauze type material. It more than likely will not trap dirt as well as the filter oil that is made for the foam filters.
Take a look at the differences between the two oils. One is thin, runny, and not sticky (the K&N oil). The other is thick and sticky, and is made to trap dirt and crap in the foam filter that has a lot bigger pores.
They are made completely differen't, and for differen't types of filters for a reason. Do what you want, but that is not a risk I'd be willing to take with my motor, and I have BOTH K&N AND foam filters.

I would use k&n oil on k&n filters and foam filter oil on foam filters. I used to use 50 wt oil on all my foam filters with no problems except that the oil would eventually drain off of the foam filter. The foam filter oils go on thin and thicken up after applying them. I am not sure if the k&n oil would stay in the foam.

About a year ago I only had K&N oil left in my garage, so I used it on my foan filter. Been using it ever since and I have never seen any dirt get thru into my intake. Now let me make it clear that I clean and re-oil my filter frequently so that might have something to do with it. But if Im just riding around here locally I usually wait a while to clean and oil, still no dust gets thru.
And for those that say only use what it is specified for, IMO they just do that so you buy there products. You can use motor oil on a filter if you had to. As long as your filter is not dry in any areas it will be fine.
Good topic!

Likewise, if you were to put motor oil on a K&N it would more than likely not flow NEAR as much air due to the thickness of it compared to the K&N filter oil.
I agree that not always do you have to use something only for what it is specified for, but in this case, I think I'll have to say that my advice is to keep the K&N oil for the K&N filter, and the Foam filter oil/motor oil for the foam filter.
Also as was mentioned, it would seem that because the K&N oil is so thin and runny, that it would drain off of the foam filter as opposed to the thicker sticky foam filter oil.
