Default eton 90 cylinder head, piston, etc.

Hey guys,

My cylinder head is toast, I have to get a new one. Any sources for them (lowest $$ possible), I'm not really looking to upgrade performance wise, just get the bike running again for my kids. It's a 2004 90 cc eton.

Thanks for any info, websites, how-to guides, go to the dealer and talk to them (?), etc.

Dave

I've got a nearly new one in perfect shape took off for a bigbore I'd sell pretty cheap. Is your head only hurt or is the cylinder/piston trashed too due to a stuck ring or other damage? You can get wiseco pistons from Dennis Kirk too in 52,52.5,53,53.5mm for about $50. Can your cylinder be bored. You said head was trashed but it may be fixable it you check with Jon at mini atv's. I got a used 52mm high compression milled/rechambered head too. I've also got one that needs milled/lapped you could have for free if you are close to my area. Somebody in your area would prolly give you a stock one they took off. Post your City- State

thanks qwadfather, at this point I'm leaning towards sending the trans/engine assembly to Jon and having him do all the work.

fastestdad, that's really nice of you thanks, answers to questions about current status below..

It took me about 3 hours to pull the motor/trans out. Used lot's of ziploc bags and a magic marker to label all bolts, put any bolts I could back into their original spot. I have to carb out too, will go through that.

the motor blew the head gasket (?) the metal gasket between the cylinder and cylinder head. (bear with me on the terms again this is new territory), the piston is burnt and scarred, the rings are toast, the cylinder walls are scarred, black soot and crust all over the cylinder head (very top part that you screw the spark plug into.

so this thing had: blown head gasket (found it because it had blown a hole through the plastic cylinder cover and was "poofing" air out the hole. muffler flange bolts were broken and the muffler flange was loose. carb was very dirty. the spark plug had been lose and it was crusted/burnt over like you've never seen one. the chain is shot.

And to top it all off, I tried pulling the tranny cover off and stripped 3 of the screw heads. well after a lot of other things I ended up chiseling off what was left of the mangled screw head. then the chisel slipped and put a hole in the tranny cover. $%#!! so buying a new one of those.

Anyway the bright side is I know a heck of a lot more about the quad now and will be diligent about maintenance and keeping the kids out of the salt water.

plus big thanks to Jon already for the repair manual from his site, it's how I decided I could pull the motor myself. It was actually pretty easy, just took my time.

wow that was long, sorry, a little online therapy session for me..

If you can post a pic of the hole in the CVT cover. If it's not at an integral part, you may be able to fix it with JBweld or something.

hey now that's a good idea. it's not integral to the whole unit and the hole isn't real big.

thanks!

Raptorlegs, I see you have a Maxfine 100. Do you know what other clones are mechanically similar to that in suspension? The engine/tranny is not a problem. In other words, does the Maxfine/qj have a better know twin that I can order parts for? Any help greatly appreciated, ride safe, Ed.
Lot's of others appear near identical as far as the chassis. The Xtreme has close ties to QJ. Billy Holt at WRH RACING specializes in Eton, Polaris and Xtreme (hint, hint )
