I went for a ride and got home and i always check oil before and after a ride. This time the oil had a strong scent of gas! I recently rejetted with a 48 pilot jet which HMF recommends for the slip on and have a 172 main. What is causing this to smell this way! I am running an open air box as well. this is a yfz 450

 

My float stuck on my carb and over a few weeks of not riding it drained into my oil.

 

one time a buddy of mine had a leaking float valve causing his bowl to overfill and run out the overflow tube. when he saw the gas dribbling from the overflow tube, he plugged it with a stick. he thought to himself, "hey I fixed the leak!". Weeks later he discovered his crankcase was full of gas that was running down the carb throat into the chamber and seeping around the piston rings into the crankcase. It was like riding a molatoff cocktail, just waiting to blow up his nads.

Trailering without shutting the fuel off will cause the bowl to overfill too, and as it sloshes around not all of it gets out the overflow tube, some of it can go down the throat.

 

I always shut off the fuel valve and run it until it starves itself of fuel. Could it be jetted to rich? any other guesses please!

 

I honest dont know but I dont think so.
