I think my 00' SP500 is great, but after some rugged time in the woods and seeing what was done for the HO, there are some feature I'd put on wish list for the next generation...

Splash gaurds for the floorboards. Man do my feet get wet! (Like to hear any suggestions on a fix)

Better CV boot protection

Fuel Gauge

Shift on the Fly Hi/Low (It's a petty thing, but after going through the nasty stuff, everone else just take off and I have to stop and shift)

A three position switch for the lights...
"RUNNING" position for the two low lights, "LOW" for the two low and the low beam in the pod and "HIGH" for the two low and high beam in the pod.

Next generation might have the four wheel drive improved. Still have a push button engagement, but use a progressive lock type differntial, not a limited slip, but one that used to be out for trucks. All I remember was it was called a "Gleason Torson" or something like that. It used helical gears rather than clutches. I think the Bombardier is using something like that. That would give you four wheel braking downhill automatically.

I'm not bashing my machine, It's awsome and I would not swap for anything. Just thinking out loud.

Any other ideas?

Polaris has extended mud skirts for sale, not a much known asccessory. When we did the Paiute we got covered with mud. Needless to say 2 sets are on order.

How do the skirts look when installed? I've been considering them for the same reason, but didn't want anything goofy looking.

As for shift on the fly hi/lo, it is impractical to say the least!

I've been thinking of ADDING holes in my floorboards to get the mud out!

Cv guards: Are the 2000 lesser than the 01? I think the '01 gurads look pretty decent.

Have the 2001 CV gaurds changed from the 2000? Shift on the fly I am not sure they could make that happen without allot of expense?

i would love a temp gage, a accurate fuel gage. i dont think that the shift on the fly would be easy to do, it would require u to take one hand off the handle bars and that would be a liability.
if polaris came out with a Hi-LO range switch like they have on the new auto traxter that would be awsome, u could switch range while driving.

later

More like more power and more traction and more ground clearance, more reliability, easier steering, waterproof, metal/plastic racks, hi/low gearcase, lower weight, 8.2" of front suspension. Just remember, more is better.

Dieselpro: The front mud extention comes down in back of the front wheel quite a bit and may be prone to some rock damage other than that its just a wider fender. The Rubys I rode with had a simular front extention and didnt get damaged by anything.

Chopperbill,

I figured I could cut them off no problem, BUT I need therear too! I was hoping they didn't look goofy.

I have my rear Titans on 12x7 steel, and was thinking of going to 12x8 Douglas .190's as well with 5" in vs 4" on the steel, as I am about 50" overall width and the rears REALLY cover the bike if I spin. I don't mind the width, but moving the wheel in wouldn't be a bad idea to "square off" the tires.

How about longer wheel studs? Mine are about 1 thread deep in the nuts! I need 1/4" longer studs.
