05 Sportsman 500ho RPM

My new 2005 Sportsman 500ho keeps stalling out!
What is the factory spec for idle RPM?
Whne idleing, the RPMs drop to about 690 from 900, and then it quits!
I can not find any info on this in the manual!
Thanks!

My 05 500 idles at about 1000. My brother bought one a few days after I did and he was having tghe same problem you are. We tried changing the idle and it did not seem to help. We noticed that there was some slack in the throttle so we adjusted the throttle cable adjuster until his felt the same as mine and that seemed to fix the problem.
I am no expert but I hope this helps.

my '05 SP500 did the same thing when i first got it. while plowing (last Winter of course) i would push up into a snowbank and it would stall 80% of the time.
called my Polaris dealer, they came right down and adjusted the idle. i was at work at the time so i don't know any specifics. whatever they adjusted did the trick!
i sometimes wonder if Dealers really take the time to do a proper PDI before they deliver a new ATV.
i fear that most don't. they fuel 'em then deliver 'em. it's too bad.

I adjusted the idle to factory specs, but just after a few minutes, it had worked its way back down to 900rpms.
So, I readjusted the idle, and again after only a few miles of riding, it worked its way back down, and began to stall out!
I have checked all the conections on the throttle cable, and did the adjust / ride / readjust several times.
I have spoke with my dealer, and they want me to bring it in, only that it would take me 3 hours to get there!
Does anyone have any ideas on how to fix this, before I load it up and hit the road?
Thanks, again!

Well first off there is an ETC that needs to be adjusted to correct specs or your engine will not run... second crank your idle adjustment way up so it idles around 1300 or 1350 and let is settle from there

my experience with the 500 ho has been such that after they get a few hours on them the throttle cable will stretch a bit resulting in low idle rpm and stalling ,it happened on mine my brothers and several friends I ride with ,the fix on all of them was to adjust the throttle cable(as falk 1rk described earlier) at the adjuster located between the headlight pod and the thumb throttle on the handle bar .
