Gasket failure

Default Gasket failure

Looks like I'm seeping out a very small amount of coolant on the right hand side where the head and cylinder meet. I was consdering getting a slightly thicker gasket. I ordered my gaskets from Rockymountain ATV. I'm running a 12:1 compression piston would a slightly thicker gasket cure my problem?

Default Gasket failure

Instead of wasting your time trying to find a thicker gasket which is almost like comparing two pieces of paper to see which one is thicker, just go to your local auto parts store and pick up a tube of silicone gasket maker, put it on the gasket and make sure you use enough, then let it sit for 24 hours. The next day you can warm it up and shut it off and it shouldn't leak anymore after that. If it is then make sure your fan and everything in your radiator is working because sometimes the coolant can get too hot and it breaks down and gets thinner.

dont buy a cheap gasket. torque to 32lbs and you'll be fine

I torqued it over and the leak is still there. A bud of mine suggested I take it to a machine shop and fly cut both surfaces. I don't mind spending for a new gasket even if it is thicker and decreases compression a bit. I just want it to stop.

after a gasket is used and leaks retorquing it isnt going to help. head gaskets are a one time deal

Going to replace..... calling Cometic on Monday looking into a slightly thicker gasket.

Thanks for the input guys hope it works for me.

Default Gasket failure

Just use a straight edge to check the flatness of the head and cylinder. A sheet of glass and some very fine wet sand paper will do wonders. Glue the paper to the glass and slowly make figure eight 8 motions to make sure the head is truely flat. I do it on the cylinder also.

Stock yamaha head gaskets are good also. I always ran the Cometic HP on my 14:1 but a friend of mine is using a stock gasket on his 70 hp Barker 686.He never has had a problem. I believe Barker always uses them.
