I am adjustin' the valves on my 2000 Warrior. How can you tell if you are on the compression stroke.I thought it was if the rocker arm moved up slightly.I tried this but it seems to be the same always.Somebody please help me as soon as possible. Thanks lata

Remove the spark plug--pull the engine through with the starter--stick your finger in the spark plug hole and you will fell air exiting on the compression stroke.

At TDC on the compression stroke, the valves are absolutely closed, no rocker movement at all.

O.K.i got it on TDC on the compression stroke.I adjusted the valves within spec.
I start the damn thing up and i can still hear the valves peckin'.I am starting to get very ticked off not to mention frustrated from doin this over and over with no luck.
What is the problem?
Thanks once again.

Another way to determine TDC which is a visual rather than a tactile one, is to remove the cylinder head side cover to see the timing chain. At TDC, the mark on the sprocket should line up with the reference point at the top of the case. If not just rotate the crank counterclockwise one rev & the marks will line up. I think you'll still hear some clatter regardless, as a fourstroke, from the tappets opening & closing. Maybe you are used to the sound of a 2 stroke. If you'rE dead certain you have them adjusted correctly, just think of it as the sound of TORQUE .

If I remember right...My warrior had a screw on the side cover. remove the screw and look into the hole as your turning the motor over by hand.
line up the "T" with the mark on the hole and you should be ready to adjust valves.
It's been a few years since I worked on a warrior, but I think I'm pretty close.
Someone correct me if I'm wrong

sAyIt_fmf,
you're correct on that, however, I'm told that the the mark merely indicates TDC but not which stroke so the indicator on the timing chain sprocket indicates the compression stroke.I like to place the T mark in the timing window on the mark first then check the alignment of the sprocket to make sure it's on the compression stroke. I think possibly that is where Swain is having a problem...he may be adjusting on TDC of the exhaust stroke
