I just purchased a 1996 Sportsman 500. It has 1800 miles on it. I changed all the fluids, greased everything I can find. Anything else I should do before a real ride? It runs awesome and I can't wait to get out and ride it for real. I have been reading your forums for a few weeks and have learned some interesting things. Happy riding.

I put a new air filter (and prefilter), a new gas filter (inline). I bought a new spark plug but put it in my tool kit.

take the spark plug out to see if its been fouled (black crap all over it) if it is, put the new one in and turn down your fuel air mixture on your carb

Sounds good. I've ridden motorcylces for 20 years, but never an atv. I've tried to cover all my bases. Thanks for your help. Polaris seem strange to me right now, but I love the way this thing runs and rides. I've degreased it, repainted the pipe and muffler, bought a new seat cover. Now if it would only get cooler weather-wise I would be off riding.
