Ok..Ok...best 50 cc for my 5 year old.

I have been reading for months about 50 cc of numerous different brands. From the Chinese to the Jap models. And I am more undesided now than I have ever been. You hear bad things about the Kazuma, you hear good things. You hear Suzuki is ok, you hear bad things, you hear the rappy is underpowered you hear others enjoy it. Is there anyone that can shed a little light on the pros and cons. I am really confused as to which direction to go at this point.

Can't comment on the other brands but we have an lt 50 suzuki. Initially the dealer said in stock form it would run 20 mph. What a joke........by gps it ran 11 mph. After mods including jetting, pulling out the intake restrictor, pipe and air filter (approx. $250) it now runs by gps 15 mph. There is still milling the head left which is not real costly. I'm ok w/ that at this point but also realize my 5 yr. old will need more as he is a quarter midget racer and also had a pw 50 dirt bike that at 31/2 yrs old ran at 23 mph. It is a great starter bike but be aware that it is an absolute dog in stock form and will most likly need some work to get it up to reasonable speed and low end power.

If you ask 10 people for their opinions, you'll probably get 15 back!! My suggestion is to find a local dealer that you can deal with. That is friendly and will do service work. (even if you normally do your own) And find a size there for your son. Most Jap quads cost more. All have been around forever and will last forever if taken care of. The Suzuki and Honda have more potenial than the Yamaha, but the Yam is a very good trail machine. With the Chinese brands, they tend to be cheaper, but sometimes it really shows. Just check them out closely and use good judgement. (if it looks like it could break it probably will type stuff!!!) A good dealer would make a world of difference with whichever brand you pick.

I have a KFX50 and have done some minor mods and it runs much better, but still isn't tearing up the dirt...A CT Racing kit will be added shortly and from what I hear it will really wake them up....BUT that is $2K for the bike and another $500 to make it get out of it's own way.....The quality of the bike is definately much better than the knock offs....it should be for 3 times the price....
BUT
I did see a Kazuma FX55 at the track and it ran circles around the KFX50 due to it's 3 or 4 spd semi auto tranny.....This sucker moved!!! Unfortunately it is discontinued It did have a more a toy like appearance, but the owner and his son had nothing but good things to say....and it was only like $700 delivered to their door.....so take that into consideration as well...Plus they are 4 stroke engines without the added costs of oil for he suto infection system or hassles of premixing or plug fouling.
$700 or $2,000+ A stock LT50/KFX50 is very very slow until the restrictors are removed from the intake "and" exhaust....
If I had to do it over again I "might" go with the Kazuma "IF" it still offered the multi spd tranny, but The KMX-50 and FX-75 (newest model) have single speed trannys (I believe), but lives in the same frame as the 50.(I believe)
There are plenty of mods that be done to the LT50/KFX50 to make it faster and they are reliable......
The 2006 Suzuki 50 is now a 4 stroke, but I don't know how it will perform in comparison to the 2 stroke LT50 that has been the standard for years.
Also---Depending on the size of your 5 yr old the Bombardier is alot bigger frame/body wise, so it may fit him better??
Hope this helps
Too bad Honda doesn't make a 50!!!

I bought a 50cc Fuxin (yeah, funny name!) for my 6-year old, and although I had some dealer problems, I eventually got it straightened out and all the parts I needed. It is a great little quad! Remote-control kill switch, alarm (so I know if the kids are getting on it when I'm not looking), throttle limiter, 4-stroke, 3-speed tranny (no clutch, just back off the throttle and shift), electric start, front shocks and rear swing arm, disc brake... the ones they are selling now are fully auto, though. Under $700. It's a little bigger, so it will fit him longer. It goes plenty fast for a youngster!

(I do not work for them, and got mine from another dealer who was a pain.) I think there are other dealers on this forum that may stock them, too.
